Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior couldn’t hide his shock when young player Arda Guler hit the crossbar with a lob shot that looked like it was made by David Beckham.
The young Turkey international has had a rough start to life in Spain, but on Saturday, he almost made Real Madrid history with a crazy shot from the halfway line against Osasuna. The other team tried to tackle Guler, but Guler beat them off and then hit the goal in a way that reminded me of David Beckham’s effort against Wimbledon in 1996. Guler’s shot, unlike Becks’, hit the bar painfully, but that didn’t stop Vinicius from going crazy with shock.
Jude Bellingham wasn’t available on Saturday, so Vinicius stepped up and scored the first goal. He then added the second goal to make it a brace. The away team won 4–2, even though Ante Budimir and Iker Munoz scored goals. Dani Carvajal and Brahim Diaz also scored for the away team. With that win, Madrid regains a large lead at the top of La Liga. If Girona loses to Getafe later on Saturday, that lead will grow to 10 points.
After some great work from Vinicius, Guler, and the rest of the team, the capital club will have a short break while club football takes a break for international games. On March 31, they play Athletic Club at home.
