Arda Güler, a young starlet for Real Madrid, had a good cameo as a replacement on Friday night for his country.
Güler, a midfielder, had to settle for a spot on the bench when Turkey went to the Puskás Arena to play Hungary in a friendly match.
But his team lost 1-0 in the end. That’s when manager Vincenzo Montella put in the 19-year-old, who had been playing well in limited minutes off the bench for his club recently.
Even though he wasn’t able to perform the magic moment that would have put his country back on equal footing, Güler once again impressed as a person.
During his 29 minutes of play in Budapest, the former Fenerbahce star made 27 touches, 13 passes, seven crosses, and one try to dribble.
Güler’s play when he didn’t have the ball was more impressive, though. The midfielder, who isn’t known for being a good defender, won four of his five ground duels and both of his two aerial duels.
Besides that, he made one clearance and got three free kicks for Turkey.
