Harry Styles and James Corden threw a party for Declan Rice to celebrate getting his 50th cap during England’s 2-2 draw with Belgium on Tuesday night.
As a reward, the Arsenal player was given the captain’s armband for the friendly match at Wembley. Rice said this made him “speechless.”
Rice said that when Gareth Southgate told him he would be leading the team against Domenico Tedesco’s team, he “stood up, shook his hand, gave him a hug, and said “thank you so much.”
I’ve joined the team, and he’s put his trust and faith in me,” Rice said.
And because they had reason to celebrate, Corden (a big West Ham fan) and Styles chose to mark the night in style.
The trio partied at the A-list hotspot Chiltern Firehouse until 4 am before leaving early the next morning. James Maddison and Jordan Henderson, two of their international teammates, were also at the party.
Jude Bellingham, who scored a last-second equalizer to save England’s face after the Three Lions had been behind for most of the game, was also there. He wore sunglasses over the evidence of a night on the tiles under his eyes.
Styles ran away into a ready car because he didn’t want to be caught on camera. Bellingham, Maddison, and the others took their time going home from the Marylebone boite.
The diehard Manchester United fan probably had some words for the player for not making the move to Old Trafford last summer. Instead, he joined Arsenal in a stunning £105 million deal, who were trying to win the title.
Along with a party held in his honor, Rice was also given a pair of custom-made Adidas boots by fellow ex-Hammer Frank Lampard before the match.
Lampard was an English player who played for England from 1999 to 2014 and scored 29 goals in 106 games. He met Rice before the game with Adidas to give him a one-of-a-kind pair of boots.
The English flag and the red, white, and blue colors of England were used in the design of the Adidas Copa boot. There was also a special message for 50 goals on the side of the shoe.
When Lampard gave Rice the boots, he said a few words to the Arsenal player and praised him for making the big goal.
He told Declan, “Don’t make this accomplishment seem small.” “Every kid who plays football as a kid dreams of playing for their country, so getting 50 caps is a big deal.”
“I can’t wait to see what the summer brings for him and this young team as they get ready for the Euros.”
Indeed, Rice agreed with these ideas and added, “It is a huge accomplishment for me to reach this milestone.”
People who know me well know how important it is for me to play for my country, so getting 50 caps is really cool. To mark the event, I can’t wait to wear my new boots on the field.
At age 25, Rice is the fifth-youngest player on the national team to reach this point, following Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen, and Raheem Sterling.
However, the player could not secure a win as he neared fifty because England fell behind twice and had to work hard to earn a late draw.
Youri Tielemans of Aston Villa was the first player to get past England’s defense and score, doing so in the 11th minute. Ivan Toney, making his full appearance, then tied the game with a penalty kick.
England fell behind after Tielemans scored his second goal, a brave flying header that went in off of a well-hit cross from Romelu Lukaku, who is on loan from Chelsea.
Bellingham had to wait until the fifth minute of extra time to make sure that England didn’t lose their second Wembley game in a row. On Saturday, they lost 1-0 to Brazil, with young Real Madrid hope Endrick scoring the only goal.
But even though England didn’t win any of their last few friendlies before the European Championship this summer, some good things happened. For example, Jarrod Bowen and Toney, who play under Harry Kane, had a good night, and Kobbie Mainoo, a young player for Manchester United, made his international debut.
Southgate said after the game that it was almost strange how sure of himself the player looked at only 18 years old.
The boss said, “Kobbie gave us something different from a creative point of view.”
“His skills are clear for all to see: he can handle pressure, ride challenges, and move the ball around in tight spaces.” He did a great job, and we can’t believe how young he is.
