Arsenal fans can rejoice as there is promising news that there will be a high demand for goalscorers in the upcoming summer.
The January transfer window has concluded, and due to Arsenal’s significant summer spending in the market, they have had a rather uneventful month.
There were no notable additions or departures at the Emirates, indicating that Mikel Arteta’s Premier League campaign will rely only on his existing squad, with no reinforcements expected for the striker position.
The Gunners are expected to prioritize signing a new forward in the upcoming summer transfer window, since the market is anticipated to be quite competitive. However, this outcome may ultimately be advantageous for Arsenal.
Transfer journalist Ben Jacobs suggests that there may be a favorable position for the Gunners regarding their interest in AC Milan attacker Rafael Leao, who is often compared to the legendary Thierry Henry.
“Rafael Leao was highly sought after, but his price was too high, especially when Chelsea showed interest. Currently, the situation has become less intense, and I don’t believe that a transfer is certain. However, in the summer, there will likely be a strong effort to acquire top-tier strikers,” Jacobs stated in an interview with FourFourTwo on January 26th. Several clubs, especially those in the Premier League, are actively seeking players who can score 20 or more goals.
Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United are expected to compete with each other as they pursue their respective top targets. Leao might perhaps be a consequence of a series of transfers during the summer, since it is evident that Premier League clubs are primarily focused on acquiring Victor Osimhen and possibly Toney, particularly Arsenal. In my opinion, it is probable that Osimhen is the preferred choice for Chelsea, occupying the top position on their list, while Toney is ranked lower.
Not all three of those clubs can secure their top priority due to either intense competition or high costs. Furthermore, a surge of backup strikers may become relevant as these clubs will have the financial means to invest. And I believe Leao will fit into that classification.
Leao inked a five-year contract with the San Siro during the summer of 2022. However, he has struggled to score goals in Serie A this season, managing only three goals in 19 matches, while playing as a left-winger.
