Erik ten Hag justifies Alejandro Garnacho’s substitution as a necessary move to “Repair” Manchester United in draw against Bournemouth

After Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, Erik ten Hag criticized Alejandro Garnacho’s performance, saying that he substituted the winger to “repair” the team.

Dominic Solanke and Justin Kluivert gave Bournemouth two goals in the first half, which resulted in a terrible performance from United.

United’s two equalizers, one from the penalty spot, were both scored by Bruno Fernandes; however, Ten Hag’s team has only one victory in seven Premier League games as a result of the draw.

Amad Diallo took Garnacho’s place at halftime as United attempted to equalize after the latter struggled to make an impression in the first half.

Before opting to replace Garnacho, Ten Hag emphasized the issue United faced on their right flank in his post-draw remarks.

When asked about Kluivert’s goal and the problem on United’s right flank, Ten Hag responded, “That already happened before that.”

“I point out that we didn’t anticipate that [Dominic] Solanke was dropping in; it has something to do with our organization. You need some coaching there, then you stop it at the source.”

“It was too easy in the second phase. There was a big gap on the right side, and even though Kluivert shouldn’t have the ball there, we have to close it if he does.”

When questioned about the rationale behind Garnacho’s substitution, Ten Hag said, “I believe we had to repair over that right side.”

We couldn’t play well; we had to bring a substitute since the spaces were in possession.

“We thought bring some energy, bring some more quality, quality in the sense of cooperation, togetherness over that right side,” said Garnacho, who did not exercise over the week.

Ten Hag said, “We conceded two unnecessary goals, we lost balls twice in situations you can’t lose them, I think three times even, that is one part of the story,” in his interview with MUTV.

“The other aspect is that they were able to create opportunities too easily because the right side was so open.”
