Journalist Christian Falk of BILD claims that Manchester United and the agents of Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong have already held formal negotiations for a summer transfer.

Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are Man United’s current first-team options at right defender, but with the latter’s future at the Club unknown, they may want to recruit a new player. Wan-Bissaka’s current contract expires in June 2025, and if no negotiations are held over a new agreement, he could be sold this summer.

Falk has now disclosed that United has shown interest in signing Frimpong, who signed a deal last year with a £34 million release clause, in his Caught Offside column. Regarding a possible summer transfer, the reputable writer continued, “the Dutchman’s management is already in formal talks with the Red Devils.”

At Leverkusen, Frimpong began his career as a right-back. However, in the last 18 months, manager Xabi Alonso has turned him into a regular right wing-back. The 23-year-old has given his best performance thus far. In his 37 games this season, he has 11 assists and 12 goals.

The summer transfer window has left United in need of an aggressive right-back, and Frimpong’s qualities would make him an ideal match. In addition to being among the greatest at creating opportunities, he is also one of the best in making overlapping runs. He might be Trent Alexander-Arnold, their very own.

Under manager Erik ten Hag, Dalot has shown promise for United, but the Portuguese player lacks the inventiveness to contribute consistently to goals. Frimpong would be a better option than him and might become ten Hag’s or whoever runs the team’s starting right-back position in the future. He might show up at the same time Wan-Bissaka leaves. The 26-year-old’s lack of offensive production makes him feel out of place with the team’s methods.
