During Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final victory over Coventry City, Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes was the team’s most impressive player.
The Red Devils were the overwhelming favorites going into the matchup with the Sky Blues, and they jumped out to a commanding 2-0 lead at halftime.
Prior to Coventry’s incredible comeback, United was ahead 3-0 and appeared to be headed for an easy victory.
The team from the Championship duly leveled up. They were denied a late victory in extra time due to a questionable VAR offside call.
In the end, Mark Robins’ team lost the penalty shootout. Based on their performance from the 70th minute onwards, United was most likely fortunate to win.
Nevertheless, there were some advantages to keep in mind. Fernandes should be commended for yet another strong all-around effort in a pivotal United match.
The Portuguese set up Harry Maguire’s header with a wonderful corner, then in the 58th minute, he scored a goal of his own after a tiny deflection.
In extra time, Fernandes had a chance to win the match for United. His strong blow from the box’s edge cannoned off the woodwork and into safety.
In addition to his goal contributions, the 29-year-old completed 85 of 123 touches while passing well. He won six duels and created nine important opportunities.
In the shootout, Fernandes also scored the game-winning fourth penalty to give United the advantage.
The club’s defense hasn’t been great, but the €65 million addition has been setting an example. Thus far this term, he has recorded 23 goal involvements.
As United looks to end their regular season on a high note before the FA Cup final, the fans will be hoping that Fernandes can continue his recent good form.
