When assembling his ideal five-a-side squad comprised of Manchester United greats, Rasmus Hojlund has chosen Cristiano Ronaldo as his “idol.”
After spending £72 million ($m) to leave Atalanta in the summer of 2023, the Danish forward hopes to establish himself as a fan favorite at Old Trafford. Hojlund, who is 21 years old, has scored in his last four Premier League games, surpassing players like Ronaldo to become the youngest Red Devil to do so.
Hojlund has always held the highest regard for legendary goal scorers from the past and stated to The United Stand that Cristiano was his childhood idol. Both [Carlos] Tevez and [Wayne] Rooney were involved, but Cristiano was most likely the one. I recall cheering for and following him while he was at United, then following him while he was at Real Madrid and Juventus, and finally watching him once more. I’ve always looked up to him.”
Unsurprisingly, Hojlund has included Ronaldo in his ideal five-a-side squad, and that lineup is rather good. When disclosing his selections, the Denmark international stated, “I need to put Peter [Schmeichel] in goal.” Peter simply because he is Peter, a Danish man. Peter is a legend who has won everything here, but he also has to be in Denmark because he won the Euros. Rio [Ferdinand] ought to be included because I find him to be quite memorable. Although I can only have one defender, I would love to have [Nemanja] Vidic there. Ryan Giggs, Cristiano, and Paul Scholes should all be in there. You can simply leave Ronaldo up front and still have a well-balanced midfield.
With 10 goals this season across all competitions, Hojlund has established himself in English football and will be looking to help United close off the 2023–24 campaign strong. They currently sit eight points outside of the top four in the Premier League, but they have more significant hardware to attempt and win there as they go to the FA Cup’s fifth round.
