The winger for Manchester United, Antony, had another difficult game at Old Trafford as the team defeated Sheffield United 4-2.
United played a fantastic first half and then showed resiliency to score two goals in the second half and ultimately win and take all three points.
United defeated the Blades, who were clearly eager to cause a major upset, thanks to goals from Rasmus Hojlund in the 85th minute, a brace from Bruno Fernandes, and Harry Maguire.
Alejandro Garnacho was assigned to play on the left side, and Ten Hag started Antony on his preferred right-wing position because Marcus Rashford was injured and did not make the matchday roster.
Garnacho was excellent even though he didn’t score, but the same cannot be said of his colleague Antony.
Aside from a few passes with Aaron Wan-Bissaka that helped United keep possession of the ball, the Brazilian found it difficult to have an impact on the match.
Antony was hardly ever willing to take on his man and was in no way a goal threat. His tendency to always cut on and try for a shot with his left foot, even in situations where going on the outside or hitting the byline were far better options, was another annoying aspect of his game.
He was pretty unimpressive, so it was not surprising when Erik ten Hag took him off before the hour had passed. Amad Diallo took his position; he was much superior and improved the team.
United as a team had an 89% pass accuracy percentage, but Antony had an 83% personal pass completion rate.
Six of the ground duels that the 24-year-old engaged in ended in losses. Additionally, Sheffield United players in rivalry twice dribbled past him.
Neither was Antony able to challenge Foderingham or get a shot on target.
He only finished two of the four dribbles he attempted, for a total of 55 touches of the ball. Thirteen times, the forward from South America lost possession.
