‘Final choice’: Chelsea have a desire to sign a new goalkeeper this summer and are monitoring Aaron Ramsdale with interest

Despite being the starting goalkeeper during Arsenal’s comeback season the previous year, Ramsdale has been benched in favor of summer signing David Raya, whose loan from Brentford is anticipated to be extended at the end of the current campaign.

The England international has only made one Premier League appearance since early September, against Brentford because Raya was unable to play for his parent club. Although Ramsdale has shown his colleague support this season, he acknowledges that he cannot afford to start the following season as a reserve.

Ramsdale is anticipated to decide on his future this summer following Euro 2024, but insiders have informed 90min that Chelsea is not likely to enter the competition to sign him, despite rumors to the contrary.

Chelsea has played down rumors that they are interested in Ramsdale and has shown that they still want Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic. Given Petrovic’s recent stellar play, Chelsea believes they have two capable goalkeepers.

Given that they have 19-year-old US international Gabriel Slonina, who is presently growing out on loan with Eupen in Belgium and will return this summer, the Blues are happy with their goalkeepers.

Chelsea’s first priority is to recruit a new striker this summer. They also view the signing of a center-back, full-back, and possibly a midfield player—should Conor Gallagher depart—as more pressing than another goalkeeper at this time.

Should Ramsdale decide to leave Arsenal this summer, he will have choices. Notes that despite Alphonse Areola’s strong season, West Ham United has been keeping an eye on the 25-year-old. Additionally, Ramsdale might get the opportunity to travel to mainland Europe, however it is known that he would much rather stay in the Premier League.

The fact that there are not as many teams looking for a goalie as there were last summer—Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur, among others—presents a challenge for Ramsdale.Image

Guglielmo Vicario, an Italy international, is a welcome addition to Tottenham, while Andre Onana is still a priority for United despite rumors that they may enter the competition to sign Ramsdale.

Ramsdale wants to compete with Jordan Pickford for the starting goalkeeping spot for England, and he does not want to leave Arsenal without a guarantee of consistent minutes.
