When Gabriel Jesus was eight years old, he worked on his art and dreamed of becoming a football star.
In his teens, the 25-year-old new boy at Arsenal was seen drawing on the streets of his Sao Paulo neighborhood as Brazil got ready to host the 2014 World Cup.
After a year, Jesus was already famous at Palmeiras and one of the best players in his country.
The forward had already made a big move to Europe with Manchester City by the end of 2016. He also played for his country and got two goals on his first game. All of this happened before they turned 19.
Jesús played so well for City after his big rise that Pep Guardiola called him the “best in the world.”
You can get what you want.
He was painting the streets of Sao Paulo when they caught him with a pencil. He was only 17 years old and played for the youth team of Palmeiras.
That’s what the people there did to get in the mood for the 2014 World Cup there.
Jesus went straight to his Jardim Peri neighborhood and added his own style to make it more interesting. People in this area were known for having bad places to live.
A little boy with a football under his arm looks back at the slum where Jesus used to live as a tattoo to remember his home.
He got better at football by playing on dirt fields, which is known as the “Varzea way” in the area.
A football club in the nearby city of Tremembe hired him when he was eight years old and made him work hard there until he was fourteen.
Because he couldn’t pay the price of the bus, he walked in flip-flops and old football boots for an hour and a half every Saturday to practice. That eight-mile round trip may have made him the dedicated and hard-working player he is now.
He was raised by his mother Vera, who has been very strict with him since he became famous.
His father died not long after he was born, and his mother had to work three jobs to take care of her four kids. Christ was also good with a ball, she saw.
He will never forget how hard things were for her. He also does the well-known “phone call celebration” to remember his mother every time he scores.
Early life
In 2013, Jesus signed a contract with Palmeiras as a beginner player. In addition, he did well in school.
The head teacher he had at Guilherme de Almeida State College told him he could have been a scientist after he did well on tests.
But I really wanted to play sports.
He got 37 goals in 22 games for Palmeiras in the u17 state title in 2014.
The best teams in Europe were already aware of his skills at that point. He would have to wait to do well in school.
Jesús was put right into the Palmeiras first team in 2015 and often played off the bench. He played in 37 games in all competitions and scored seven goals.
The next year would be even better. He scored 21 goals in 46 games.
Even better, he would help Palmeiras win their first league game in 22 years.
When he was 19, it was clear that he would play on a bigger stage.
Good to have you in the Premier League.
It was said that Manchester City paid £30 million to get Jesus in 2016 instead of a number of other teams.
When he got there, he told them, “I want to win titles, and Manchester City is a club that does that.” I liked that City is always in the running for the title in the games it plays in. I also liked that Pep Guardiola was the manager and that the team played well. It was a guess about what would come next.
In his first eleven games for the club, he scored seven goals. His first game for the club was in January 2017.
He broke his metatarsal in only his fourth game, but that didn’t stop him from fitting in very well.
The following season, he would win his first Premier League trophy. The following year, he would win back-to-back titles.
Before Sergio Aguero took over as center forward, Jesus got 45 goals in his first 100 games for the club.
The 2018 World Cup didn’t go as planned, though.
Not Working with Brazil
Before that big game in Russia, Brazil was a clear favorite to win.
Captain Dani Alves said a year ago that Jesus was like Ronaldo in that he was a World Cup star and that there was a lot of hope for him.
But he was so young and stressed out that he fell as he led the line for his country.
This means that Brazil’s No. 9 is likely to score goals. He failed in that way; he got no points.
They were out of the event after losing to Belgium in the quarterfinals.
Last but not least, Jesus was harsh on his work and bravely told him that it bothered him.
“That firing of ours hurt all of us, but it hurt me the most,” he said later.
“I was very important before the World Cup, but I didn’t score any goals.” It changes you.
“It really hurt me.” People will always remember Gabriel, even though he didn’t score in the World Cup.
There are doubts about whether he scores goals easily, and he is often played out wide instead of center forward. He may not have been as good lately because of this.
Someone who likes Pep
The manager of Man City, Pep Guardiola, stood by his player even though some people didn’t think he could score many goals.
When Jesus played his first game without Aguero last season, it was against Watford. He got four goals. This proved to his boss how important he was.
It was already said that he was going to move to Arsenal at that point.
In a news conference after the game, Guardiola told the reporters how important he is to the team.
“I need to tell you something.” “Gabriel plays for us.””I don’t know what will happen, but he plays for Manchester City,” the Spanish player said.
“But Gabriel doesn’t need to score four goals like he did today to show what he can do.” He had two clear one-on-one chances against Liverpool in the FA Cup game but missed them. Gabriel is so good because he always wants what’s best for the team.
“He tries a million times, but the ball stays away from him.” He still moves the other balls a million times. He’s always there for me, which makes me the happiest man in the world on nights like these.
“If he doesn’t play, he trains the next day like it’s his last. That’s why he will have a long and successful career: he is very positive and thinks about the team.”
“We did everything we did this season with Gabriel.” He would also say, “Gabriel is one of the best.”
Christ and Wag Raiane have a daughter named Helena. He will bring that contagious energy to Arsenal, where he will meet up with Mikel Arteta again. Arteta was his assistant coach at City.
A mural of his face was made by people in the area to honor their best son and his work so far. It’s just missing the red paint.
