Arsenal has revealed that the famous cannon emblem would take the place of the old club crest on their new home shirt for the next season.
This is the first time in 35 years that the cannon will be featured on the home shirt; it has been used in place of the crest on other shirts in the past, like the away effort this season.
This summer, Arsenal will unveil its away and third kits, which will likewise feature the cannon emblem in place of the crest.
The manufacturers Adidas have stated that the cannon is an homage to the Gunners’ past and that the modification will only be in effect for one season.
The club crest is still a significant component of Arsenal’s iconography and will continue to appear frequently, including on the mural that surrounded the Emirates Stadium during the previous campaign.
Arsenal has a long history of using several crests; one such example is the Art Deco design from the 1930s that is shown over the entrance to the marble rooms at Highbury.
“This season, we drew inspiration from Arsenal’s iconography, and the cannon is perhaps the most iconic symbol for Arsenal,” stated Adidas SVP of product and design Sam Handy.
“During the development process, we went back to the archive and examined years of design and cooperation, which are the fundamental components of the team’s identity for players and fans.
“Therefore, the focus of this season is the cannon, its significance to the club’s history, and its reintroduction to a new group of players and supporters.”
