VITAL CONTRIBUTION: Kai Havertz scores a beautiful goal, contributing 25 goals for Arsenal and the German national team this season; Germany secured a late comeback victory of 2-1 against Greece in the opening match of Euro 2024

Germany were 2-1 winners over Greece on Friday night and Arsenal’s Kai Havertz got on the scoresheet with a lovely goal.

This was the final game for Julian Nagelsmann’s team before they play Scotland on Friday to begin their Euro 2024 campaign.

The German national team is particularly excited about the competition because it is being held at home, and their victory against Greece should boost their confidence before they play their opening match at the Allianz Arena next week.

On Friday night, Germany’s equaliser was scored by Arsenal’s Kai Havertz, who is having a great season. Leroy Sane found the 24-year-old, who turned and made an excellent shot.

One week before the opening match of Euro 2024, Poland fell 2-1 to Greece in a friendly on Friday in Moenchengladbach. Pascal Gross’s goal in the 89th minute, however, gave Germany the victory.

Brighton’s Gross, a German-born midfielder, scored the game’s winning goal in the final minute with a rocket shot past Greek goaltender Odysseas Vlachodimos. Georgios Masouras’ first goal had earlier been negated by Kai Havertz.

Germany lacked adaptability against the 2004 Euro champions, despite coach Julian Nagelsmann selecting his best squad. They lost a play-off qualification to Georgia on penalties, hence they were unable to attend the event this summer.

Given that he had recently won the Champions League with Real Madrid six days prior, Toni Kroos claimed that Germany was still on track despite their defeat.

“In football, bad halves happen, but it’s important to see the bigger picture.”

“We lost the ball in the first half due to a lot of bad decisions.” But we won the game because we were more focused and had superior ball control.

“Remain composed and avoid making errors. We made some mistakes and lost the ball, but the second half of our play was far better.

According to Nagelsmann, his players “showed much more spice” in the second half and the victory had a significant impact on the atmosphere in the stadium leading up to the event.

In the 33rd minute, Masouras scored his first goal after Germany’s custodian Manuel Neuer dropped the ball in front of the goal. Due to a late error in Monday’s scoreless draw with Ukraine, he had not yet received any punishment.

Ter Stegen stood in the wings, waiting.

Prior to the game, Nagelsmann announced that the victor of the 2014 World Cup would start in goal, with Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen warming up in the wings. That promise is called into question by this error.

Real Madrid players Kroos and Antonio Ruediger Jr. returned for Germany following their absence from the match on Monday in order to celebrate their Champions League victories. Nagelsmann managed to assemble his best squad, which is anticipated to take against Scotland in the tournament’s opening match on Friday.

Just six minutes in, Christos Tzolis forced Neuer into a last-ditch double save, giving the visitors a strong early lead. The 38-year-old custodian stopped the Fortuna Duesseldorf striker in close range using both his foot and his hand.

Greece, ranked 50th in the world, kept getting through a weak German middle. After 33 minutes, they took the lead when Neuer missed a Tzolis shot and Masouras tapped it in from a metre out.

The home crowd was yelling and holding up a banner that said “we will become European champions” before the game. The goal quieted them down.

Havertz had the ball in the net right before halftime, but when he accepted Jamal Musiala’s pass, he was just slightly offside.

However, the Arsenal player did score eleven minutes into the second half. On the turn, he scored after receiving a feed from Leroy Sane.

Benjamin Henrichs, a late substitution, struck the crossbar with a long shot with seven minutes remaining in the match, but Gross—who also entered the game in the middle of the second half—scored the game-winning goal from just beyond the box.

Although Germany will be pleased with the victory, some issues remain, particularly with the goalie.

After returning from Qatar in December 2022, Neuer injured his leg, forcing him to miss nearly a year of football. In addition, he made a vital mistake against Real Madrid that led to Bayern’s elimination in the Champions League semifinals in May.
