The Gunners are interested in the 20-year-old, but rival London teams will challenge Mikel Arteta’s team, per RMC Sport.

The other centre midfield player that Arsenal has on their books is Albert Sambi Lokonga.

However, despite only starting three league games since November, the Belgian was unable to establish himself as a star athlete.

For £6 million a year ago, the Belgium international moved from Hamburg to Lille.

And after making an impression in his debut season in France, he has already been linked to a move to the Premier League.

With a height of 6 feet 5 inches, the defensive midfielder is thought to be of interest to Arteta.

Due to his strong club performance, Onana was called up to the senior Belgium squad for the first time last month. He received his first cap during the team’s loss to the Netherlands.

Other unidentified London clubs are reportedly also interested in the midfield player, according to Sacha Tavolieri of RMC Sport, so the Gunners could need to move quickly to complete the acquisition.

For Lille past season, Onana made 42 appearances and started 17 games as the French team advanced to the Champions League knockout stages for the first time since 2007.

It is believed that Arteta wants to strengthen his defensive midfield alternatives in order to give Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey some backup.

Both Lucas Torreira and Mohamed Elneny, who recently returned from a loan spell at Fiorentina, have contracts that expire next season and might be transferred out this summer for a fee.
