Andriy Lunin, the custodian for Real Madrid, is reportedly considering his options at the team in light of Arsenal’s approach, according to Spanish publication COPE.
With Madrid last season, the Ukrainian star had an incredible breakout campaign. He made 31 appearances for the Champions League winners in all competitions after Thibaut Courtois was injured for the majority of the season.
Lunin was a terrific shot-blocker who also had good touch with the ball in his hands, which attracted attention. He still has one year left on his deal, and according to COPE, Los Blancos has made him an offer for a new, five-year deal.
The 25-year-old has had offers from intriguing European teams, including as Arsenal, but has not yet made a decision on the matter. As manager Carlo Ancelotti doesn’t seem to think highly of Lunin for the starting position, Lunin might want to look for a new challenge.
David Raya was signed by Arsenal last summer on a season-long loan from Brentford, with the option to buy. After the September international break, the Spaniard managed to unseat Aaron Ramsdale in goal and establish himself as the clear first choice.
Ramsdale played in the Cup tournaments, but he was only allowed to play a limited amount of minutes. Raya was not allowed to play against Brentford. The Englishman has been mentioned as a potential departure for this summer. If he departs, Arsenal may be looking for a capable replacement.
Jude Bellingham, a teammate, praised Lunin as “unbelievable,” saying he would be a great addition to the London giants’ roster. The main concern is if he would join them to support Raya, who is probably going to make a permanent move soon. If the Ukrainian were to leave Madrid, he would undoubtedly want to be first choice.
Therefore, we are quite surprised to learn about the transfer link. We don’t see Lunin becoming the no.1 for Arsenal next season unless manager Mikel Arteta decides against activating the buy option to purchase Raya from the Bees in the upcoming transfer window.
