Christian Eriksen, a midfielder for Manchester United, gave the national team another incredible display on Sunday, this time against Slovenia.
But even with his valiant efforts, Denmark was unable to win all three points as they were beaten to a 1-1 draw in their inaugural Euro 2024 group round match.
After just seventeen minutes of proceedings, Eriksen broke the impasse in a magnificent manner.
Rasmus Hojlund, his United teammate, won a throw-in. A right-wing cross entered the penalty area, and Jonas Wind backheeled the ball into Eriksen’s path as he approached. With deft chest control, Eriksen tucked the ball into the bottom corner.
Eriksen’s goal was his 42nd for Denmark, and he currently shares fourth place in the nation’s all-time goalscoring standings.
Eriksen was overcome with emotion as he celebrated at the Stuttgart Arena with his teammates and fans, unable to contain his happiness.
On this occasion, Eriksen marked three years after he nearly died in a European Championship match in his native nation. Specifically, Sunday marked 1,100 days after Eriksen’s fall during a Euro 2020 match at FC Copenhagen’s Parken Stadium due to a heart arrest.
The football community held its breath while Eriksen received medical attention for thirteen minutes. His continued play is nothing short of a miracle, and the fact that he scored Denmark’s first goal in the Euro 2024 match against Slovenia is a really touching anecdote from the competition.
The 32-year-old caused Slovenia all kinds of issues in addition to his goal.
In all, Eriksen managed three shots: one goal that found the net, and two more that failed to test Slovenian custodian Jan Oblak.
During his time on the pitch, the United No. 14 recorded 78 touches of the ball. With 44 of the 50 passes he tried finding their teammates, he managed an individual pass accuracy of 88%. Eriksen completed seven crucial passes.
Using two long balls and fourteen crosses, he attempted to locate a teammate. He made seven crosses that went where they were supposed to. None of the long balls he pinged connected with him.
Eriksen participated in six ground fights and won four of them. He made one tackle as well.
When Denmark plays England in four days, they will be itching to resume their winning ways.
