England got off to a good start at this summer’s European Championship, defeating Serbia 1-0 in their first group encounter on Sunday evening.
Three Manchester United players were selected by Gareth Southgate for the initial 33-man roster; however, due to Harry Maguire’s injury, which would keep him out until the end of the club season, only Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw were included in the final 26-man roster.
Shaw ultimately came back to the bench after taking a break of more than four months, but both players were included in the matchday squad against Serbia.
After Jude Bellingham’s header in the first half handed the Three Lions all three points, Mainoo entered the game as a replacement, but the 19-year-old made a late charge and helped his team win.
And there is still another Red Devil, Kobbie Mainoo, playing, but Man Utd’s young star only entered the field in the 87th minute to replace Bellingham.

Mainoo hopes to play a more major role in England’s future group games against Denmark and Slovenia.
It is uncertain whether Shaw will play in those games, but his selection in the team is a significant boost for Southgate.
Prior to the game, Erik ten Hag appeared to disclose some inside information on Shaw’s fitness, saying that he will only be ready for selection until England advances past the group stage.
