HEARTWARMING MOMENTS: Kieran Tierney was taken on a stretcher and he shed tears behind the stands after a serious injury in the Euro 2024 match between Scotland and Switzerland

During Scotland’s Euro 2024 match against Switzerland, Kieran Tierney, an Arsenal defender, was taken out on a stretcher following an unusual injury.

Resuming his role for the Scots, Tierney found himself at odds with Swiss forward Dan Ndoye. As he broke for goal, the 27-year-old appeared to damage his left hamstring by overstretching.

He was in severe discomfort, so the game was postponed until he had treatment before it restarted. But the Arsenal player knew immediately that his night was over, and he gestured for someone else to take his place.

The Arsenal left-back was seen covering his face in the tunnel following the 1-1 draw

Tierney, who was carried off the pitch on a stretcher, may or may not be able to compete for the whole of the group stages, depending on the extent of his injuries.

Former Scotland player Pat Nevin addressed his countryman’s horrifying injury while providing game commentary for BBC Five Live. “I believe it had gone into the turf immediately before the jar, which is why it jarred—he had to straighten out his foot,” he said.

“The thing about Kieran is that he read the play, covered really well, and gave you that pace.”It seemed like he was going faster than ever in his career. Just when he was beginning to look his best again, Kieran had the worst injury luck of his career.

Tierney played for Real Sociedad on loan during the previous season, making 27 matches. Reports state that although the La Liga outfit is not expected to sign the Scotland international this summer, an Emirates Stadium departure is still likely.

Real Sociedad tweeted, “Get well soon Kieran Tierney,” along with an emoji of a praying man, in spite of this.

Newcastle United is not considered to be among the teams interested in the possibility of a permanent or temporary exit, according to reports that surfaced earlier on Wednesday. Depending on how serious the injury is, Mikel Arteta may have to abandon his plans to trade the defender.
