Neymar and Gabriel Jesus have similar tattoos on their bodies that represent their early aspirations to become professional football players.
From modest beginnings, the two have developed into two of Brazil’s most promising talents and have taken home numerous awards at the greatest level.
Their journeys have been comparable, and via their ink, the two have honoured their respective origins. Neymar was the first to finish it, and Jesus followed following after being motivated by the former Barcelona star.
Before Brazil’s incredible run to the gold medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics, where they defeated Germany on penalties, the two proudly displayed their identical tattoos next to one other.
Jesus got inked on his forearm, and Neymar’s is on his left leg. In both tattoos, a little child in the favelas is depicted staring up at the homes and dreaming of glory while sporting a football under his arm and a Brazil cap.
Jesus, who came up through Palmeiras’ ranks, was only a fan of Neymar before joining Manchester City; before long, they were teammates and friends.
Additionally, he believes that the tattoo “says everything in one picture” and symbolises the aspirations of many Brazilians.
“When we won the gold medal, it was an incredible moment for us, and for the country,” Jesus wrote in an essay for The Players’ Tribune in 2017.
“Neymar got a tattoo prior to the competition, and it really communicates everything in one photo, so I was encouraged to get one too.
The young child is standing at the base of a hill and gazing up at the favelas. He’s just daydreaming while clutching a football under his arm.
That’s not exclusive to Neymar or me. It’s so many Brazilians. And that’s what winning gold meant to us.”
Jesus spent £50 million to sign a five-year contract with Arsenal. In his five years with City, Jesus has netted 95 goals and won four Premier League championships.
