According to The Guardian, Manchester City is one of three teams “considering a move” for Crystal Palace offensive midfielder Eberechi Eze.
According to the newspaper, the Eagles are expecting proposals from Tottenham and Arsenal, the two Premier League winners.
According to reports, Eze’s contract contains a £60 million release clause, which is comparable to the one that Bayern Munich activated for Michael Olise, his teammate.
It is unclear if the Cityzens are willing to spend that much on the 25-year-old. The futures of Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne might mean a lot.
What makes City want to sign Eze?
With 32 appearances, the England international scored 11 goals and provided six assists for Palace in a very successful season. Several pundits have showered the athlete with accolades, including Martin Keown of TNT Sports. Earlier this year, he stated the following of Eze:
“Last year at this time, Patrick Vieira was about to leave, and I spoke with Eze at the training ground.” He left me incredibly amazed. He bombarded me with questions, asking specifically about my work ethic, daily training regimen, and desire to excel.
“Okay, I need to do more,” he said. It was fascinating; later, I watched with a great deal of curiosity, and he is since moved on. In his ear, Roy Hopkinson is presenting him appropriately. There is no denying this man’s extraordinary talent.
What is going on with Silva and De Bruyne?
This week, there were rumours circulating that City would not be speaking with De Bruyne about extending his contract. Next season’s finish marks the expiration of his present contract. It is unlikely that the Belgian will not make the move to the Middle East this summer given his professed interest in relocating to Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, Silva’s contract contains a £50 million release clause, which it has been said Bayern is prepared to activate. We will have to wait and see whether that occurs.
