Arsenal is expected to reveal David Raya from Brentford’s permanent signing for a £27 million cost.
Last season, Mikel Arteta drew eyebrows when he signed the Spain international on loan, deciding to replace Aaron Ramsdale.
Raya first battled to show he was an upgrade over Ramsdale, who had grown to be an Emirates Stadium fan favourite over his first two years.
Still, Raya discovered his form as the season went on. Arsenal’s Champions League campaign depended much on his penalty-saving heroics, which enabled the team to make its first quarter-finals since 2009.
With 16 clean sheets before the end of the campaign, Raya had earned the Golden Glove title, therefore confirming his rank as the top custodian for the team.
Arsenal will now permanently relocate Raya, stated Fabrizio Romano. Given the former Sheffield United goalkeeper’s odd acceptance of a backup position, Ramsdale’s future is now unknown.
Newcastle had shown interest in Ramsdale but turned away due to Arsenal’s price. Should Ramsdale go, Arsenal intends to sign a fresh No. 2 custodian to challenge Raya.
