The BBC’s experts showered England’s hero with admiration.
BUKAYO SAKA couldn’t stop smiling after leading England to a semi-final clash with Holland in the Euro 2024 competition.Breel Embolo gave Switzerland the lead with just 25 minutes to go in Dusseldorf, raising the possibility that the Three Lions might be eliminated from the competition.
Saka smiled throughout his post-match interview. He ranked England’s victory against the Swiss as one of his greatest moments in a Three Lions shirt.Saka’s wonder strike from the edge of the area drew England level. Then he skillfully placed his penalty in the right corner.
But Saka became the valiant English hero in less than five minutes.
The Arsenal player, now playing at right wing-back, curled a shot beautifully from the edge of the box to equal the score.
Both teams had chances to win in extra time before the match, predictably, descended into penalties.
And Saka seized the chance to give England the advantage with a penalty kick after Jordan Pickford had stopped Manuel Akanji, making the score 2-1.
Saka, 22, calmly fired past Yann Sommer to put the team’s heartbreaking error in their final Euro 2020 loss to Italy out of his mind.
All five of England’s takers converted, and they went on to win 5-3—their only shootout triumph to date. It was a perfect set of pennies.
When asked about chasing his demons, Saka replied, “It’s something I embrace.”
The way we fought back was what set us apart. Everyone knows what happened the last time we had penalties.
“You have the ability to make mistakes once, but you also have the choice to avoid repeating those mistakes. I’ll put myself in that situation as a male.
I believed in myself.Recovering from something like that was extremely difficult, but I used it as a strength.
“We know that before we can change history and our own lives, there are still two games to play. We’re giving that a lot of attention.
”
In the next game, hopefully, we can win in ninety minutes. But we’ll take any necessary steps to make this happen.
During the celebrations, England manager Gareth Southgate gave Saka a big hug, showing how happy he was with his star player.
“Bukayo was really courageous,” said Southgate. He is one of our finest, so we never had any doubts that he would accept one.
Given his struggles, which we all know about, to deliver in the way he did… On the pitch, I gave him a deep embrace. It’s a pleasure working with such a wonderful young man.
“It takes courage, but we had faith in him.” Previously, we had put our trust in him. Now, he’s much more accustomed to dealing with those tense circumstances. All in all, he performed brilliantly.
“Yeah, that makes me proud of myself too.”
During a post-match interview on the BBC, Saka’s cheerful demeanour left interviewer Gary Lineker raving about the “wonderful” England player.”What a fantastic young man,” he said. He is really smart and pleasant.
Beeb commentator Rio Ferdinand went on, “He just seems like such an optimist to me in every way.” Along with his football skill, you can’t help but love him for his charisma and personality.

He stands out from the others to such an extent that I contend he is England’s most significant player.
He is the one who will charge at targets, infiltrate from behind, and eliminate them one-on-one.
“Even though he is a winger, he played wing back today.” He’s an amazing athlete.
Saka was one of many English players who endured disgusting racist chants after missing a penalty kick in England’s European Championship final shootout.
He saw Gianluigi Donnarumma stop his penalty kick after coming in as Italy overcame England in the Euro 2020 championship.
