Facundo Pellistri didn’t play much for Manchester United last night, but Uruguay beat South American giants Brazil on penalties to set up a very exciting matchup with Colombia for a spot in the final.
The Uruguayans have a long history in the game, and their impressive win, during which they played with ten men from the 74th minute through extra time, added to that history.
They played with a lot of resolve and grit, even though they only had 40% of the ball, they kept the Brazilians mostly at bay, and after 120 minutes, the score was 0-0.
Eight of their shots were on goal, but only one of them went in. Darwin Nunez had a great chance in the first half, but his free header went over the bar.
In what has been a great event so far, Pellistri has scored a goal and set up another one. This was one of his less active nights.
Sofascore gave the 22-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Granada, a score of 6.7.
He played for 78 minutes but was taken off soon after Nahitan Nandez got a red card, which meant La Celeste had to change their lineup.
He could only touch the ball 30 times during the game and only completed four passes out of eight tries.
He didn’t have any key plays because he didn’t have the ball very often, and neither of his two crosses went where they were supposed to.
It was a disappointing night for the young winger because he didn’t have any shots on or off target.
He did attempt to attack the Brazilian defence, and two of the five times he dribbled the ball were successful. He was also very careless with the ball; 13 times during the whole game, he gave it away.
The young player did help his team’s defence, though, by clearing the ball once and making five good saves.
Besides that, he won eight of the fifteen ground duels he fought and one of the two air fights he fought.
And it was Manuel Ugarte, a player wanted by Manchester United, who scored Uruguay’s last chance in the shootout after Brazil missed two.
Because Uruguay is still in the event, the deal for the defensive midfielder probably won’t move forward until after the middle of July.
Now that La Celeste has played Colombia, they will play Argentina or Canada in the championship match. The semifinals will take place on Wednesday night (Thursday early UK time). Some United players will start their summer break with the Copa America title in their hands. Fans of the team are hoping that Uruguay can make it to the next round and play Lisandro Martinez and Alejandro Garnacho’s Argentina.
