English fans have come together to write songs about Kobbie Mainoo’s show.
The midfielder for Manchester United won a spot in Gareth Southgate’s starting XI for the Euro 2024 match against the Netherlands after a great performance against Switzerland in the quarterfinals.
Mainoo became the youngest player in United Kingdom history to play in a big tournament’s semi-final. He did so at the age of 19 years and 82 days.
And while some may have given up under the stress, Alan Shearer said that stress is for tyres, not Mainoo.
Mainoo played very well in the first half at the BVB Stadion.
He had won all of his tackles and duels, finished 25 passes, made two interceptions, and set up as many chances as anyone else for England. He almost helped Phil Foden’s goal, but it was cleared off the line.
After England tied the game 1-1 at halftime thanks to a Harry Kane penalty that cancelled out Xavi Simons’ stunning goal, fans praised the play on social media.
A fan said: “Less than 30 per cent of earth is covered by land, the other 70 per cent is covered by Kobbie Mainoo.”
Someone else talked and said, “Kobbie Mainoo, I’m standing up and cheering.”
Another person said, “Mainoo is RUNNING the game in a major international semi-final at the age of 19.” Wow, what a monster!”
“Mainoo is running that midfield,” said someone else. Some of you England twits didn’t believe him. Only 19 years old and in charge of the semi-finals of a big international tournament. “You need to respect it.”
“Kobbie Mainoo, they can never make me hate you,” said a fifth. Put aside the sports rivalry. As a fan of Arsenal, this guy is the truth and nothing but the truth.
Sixth said: “The world seeing what United fans have been talking about all season.”
“Cole Palmer was expected to be England’s game-changer off the bench, but Kobbie Mainoo has stepped up and made the most of the chance,” said someone else. “What a player.”
Ollie Watkins scored the game-winning goal with a stunning driven shot across the goal after coming off the bench.
