He put £500,000 into his city to build a brand-new, high-tech gym. Scholes is a Reds legend.
The legendary Paul Scholes has teamed up with his kids, Arron and Alicia, to open a brand-new, high-tech gym in Oldham, where he grew up. The Scholes family put £500,000 into the huge 10,000-square-foot building project on Lees Road in the town.

The gym’s plan was made by award-winning designer Mark Mason. According to Paul, who used to play for the Reds and England, the idea for the gym came from his family’s love of working out, which began in their Oldham garden during a lockdown. They chose a gym with a wide range of cutting edge tools and workout plans that would be good for both beginners and people who want to push their fitness limits.
The Scholes family runs the gym. Arron, 22, is a Level 3 certified personal trainer, and Alicia, 20, is a part-time professional player who plays netball for London Pulse and is also a Level 3 certified personal trainer. It’s being advertised as a ‘gym like no other’. The stylish interiors, large windows, and soft lighting make it feel warm and friendly, and there’s a coffee shop area in front of the building.
Inside the fitness centres, bright neon signs and slogans like “Gains O’Clock” and “Stronger than Yesterday” are meant to motivate people to work out. There are cardio, strength, and conditioning machines, a wall of weights, and a studio space on both floors of the club.
The family bought the old tool rental building on Lees Road and tore it down to the ground to make the new, state-of-the-art gym. Man United great Paul talked about how important it is to give back to the community. “Oldham is where I grew up and got my first taste of sports,” he said.
“It’s very important to me that Scholes Gym opens here.” It’s the kind of place I wished I could have back then, and I’m glad that Arron, Alicia, and I can make it happen for other people.

Members can also use a Batak reaction machine, which is a piece of equipment that you only see in professional sports studios. Paul and other top athletes have praised it for improving reaction time, hand-eye coordination, and endurance. Trampolines, assault bikes, rowers, and ski ergs are just some of the exercise machines that can be found upstairs on an open deck area that looks out over the floor.

Along with a qualified team of experts, Arron and Alicia will be leading individual training sessions at the gym. “After six months of hard work, it’s amazing to open the doors and welcome people to Scholes Gym,” Arron said about the launch. Alicia and I have talked about it for a long time, so making it happen is great.
“We can’t wait to meet new people and share our sports knowledge with them along with our great team.” There is an honour in being able to help our members get fit and improve their mental and physical health.
