GUNNER STORY: Jurriën Timber has difficulty with dumbbells, Ben White transforms into a boxer and Fabio Vieira at training yesterday

From the weights he was using, it looked like he spent most of his summer break making himself stronger.

It shocked fans when they saw White, 26, chest press two 40 kg bars while the Gunners did some pre-season gym work.

BEN WHITE looks like he has been busy this summer.

The Arsenal defender did not travel to Germany for England’s Euro 2024 challenge.

Someone said, “Throwing 80 kg up, my guy,” in response to Arsenal’s Instagram post.

“Ben White pressing 40 kgs, my kind of guy,” said someone else.

Someone else wrote, “Benny with the 40s.”

Gabriel Jesus, a Brazilian striker, had a pair of 22.5 kg weights.

Before he joined Thomas Partey and Ethan Nwaneri on the exercise bikes, Martin Odegaard also looked very fit.

White almost certainly would have made England’s team based on his skills.

But he hasn’t played for England since he left the World Cup in Qatar for “personal reasons.”

Gareth Southgate said this after choosing his team: “He’s clearly on form, I can’t sit here and say he doesn’t deserve to be here.”

“[Arsenal sporting director] Edu called [FA technical director] John McDermott last night to say that Ben didn’t want to be considered for England squads.”

“I feel terrible about it because I really like that player. We took him to the Euros and I took him to the World Cup.”

“I talked to him after Qatar because I wanted to pick him, but he wanted to be careful.” That is okay with me, even though I don’t fully understand why.

“I want to leave the door open for him. He’s a good player who can make a difference for England, but we can’t have him.”
