Leny Yoro’s first fifteen minutes against Rangers have already led Manchester United supporters to hope he will return their team to the top of the game.
On Thursday, Yoro joined United from Lille, with the Manchester team paying a £50 million upfront fee plus an additional £12 million in potential add-ons.
Leny Yoro impressed on his first outing for Manchester United
He put in a brilliant tackle to stop a Rangers attack
He was named in the starting lineup for United’s pre-season friendly against Rangers – and fans have already got a taste of his true abilities.
After just 15 minutes of the game, Yoro produced a cross-field pass that found the onrushing Sam Murray, who was left in acres of space on the left flank.
The 18-year-old then made a superb last-ditch tackle to stop Rangers forward Cyriel Dessers from getting a shot on goal at Andre Onana.
And fans had positive reactions for Yoro after only 15 minutes in a United shirt.
One wrote: “Not to over-exaggerate but Leny Yoro MIGHT be the best centre-back in the world.”
Another said: “Early signs and will need to see against tougher opposition, but Leny Yoro looks promising.”
A third made the comparison: “Leny Yoro is a freaking Rolls-Royce of a defender… I have not seen that type of quality on a pitch for Manchester United since Rio Ferdinand.”
And a fourth stated: “Leny Yoro is even better than I thought he was going to be.”
Amad Diallo gave United the lead on 37 minutes, cutting in from the right before firing a superb effort into the corner.
The Ivorian is one of a number of first team players involved at Murrayfield – the game is being played at a neutral venue – with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Mason Mount, Jonny Evans and Casemiro all starting the first half.
But the most notable sight is that of Jadon Sancho, who also started against the Scottish Premiership runners-up in what is his first appearance in a United shirt since August 2023.
