Duncan Castles says that Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain are in talks to sign Fabian Ruiz in the summer of 2024.
But Mikel Arteta’s team is almost done with a €50m (£42.1m) deal for Bologna back Riccardo Calafiori. This is the only player they have added to their team this summer.
Arsenal is also looking for a new attacker and a new central defender for the new season. According to Duncan Castles, the Premier League runners-up from last season have now made a move for Fabian Ruiz after seeing how well he played for Spain at Euro 2024. Castles said this on The Transfers Podcast:
The Spanish defender Fabian Ruiz is being talked about by Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain. If they do agree on a price with PSG, it will probably be set up like the deal they made to get David Raya from Brentford last summer: it will be a loan deal with an option to buy after one year.
Arsenal interested in PSG midfielder Fabian Ruiz
Ruiz joined PSG from Napoli for an initial fee of €21.5m (£18.5m) in August 2022. The 28-year-old has struggled to secure a regular place in midfield since moving to the French capital, making just 21 Ligue 1 appearances in his debut campaign, while under Luis Enrique last season he made just 14 league appearances.
However, Ruiz has been a key player for Spain at Euro 2024 and was one of the tournament’s standout performers with two goals and two assists. Asked about his future earlier this month, Ruiz told Le Parisien: “I know that my name comes up in every transfer window. But I’m fine in Paris. I still have three years left on my contract and I still have many goals to achieve with PSG.”
