The Manchester team’s final friendly in the US ended with a 4-2 victory over Chelsea thanks to a hat-trick from Haaland.
In Ohio (USA), Man City and Chelsea played a friendly match. Chelsea still has a match against Real Madrid on August 7 before returning to their home ground in London to play a friendly match against Inter Milan on August 11. Man City’s final friendly encounter before heading back to England to prepare for the Super Cup is against Man United on August 10.
With a game remaining against Chelsea, Guardiola’s team triumphed 4-2 behind Haaland’s hat-trick. Even though Man City started with a lineup that had a few youthful players, they were still able to handily defeat Chelsea, who had a group that was primarily made up of first-team players.
Chelsea’s defence mishandled the ball in the penalty area in the second minute, forcing them to foul Haaland and award a penalty. The 11-meter kick was successfully converted by the Norwegian striker to start the scoring.
Even after the first goal, Chelsea’s defence remained tenacious. When a Chelsea defender mishandled the ball close to the penalty area in the fifth minute, Haaland grabbed it and raced down to finish past Sanchez with style, doubling the lead to 2-0.
Man City outperformed Chelsea throughout the second half of the game, but they were unable to capitalise on numerous chances they created to score a third goal. In the first half, Chelsea had limited opportunities to score. Most notably, in the 42nd minute, keeper Ortega left the penalty area to clear the ball, and Fernandez kicked the ball out even though the goal was vacant.
With a hat-trick from Haaland, Man City easily defeated Chelsea, 2-0.
In the second half, Man City accelerated and immediately scored. In the 55th minute, Bobb received the ball on the right, penetrated the penalty area and shot into the near corner, leaving Sanchez standing still. A fast and covert finish from the teenage striker on the Man City side brought the third goal.
Just one minute after the third goal, Man City had their fourth goal. Haaland collected the ball at the edge of the penalty area, ran down and cleanly finished past Sanchez, raising the score to 4-0.
After conceding 4 goals, Chelsea finally woke up a little. In the 58th minute, Madueke attacked forcefully on the right flank, he assisted Sterling to finish from the middle of the penalty area and put the ball into the net, cutting the score to 1-4.
Man City were pretty unlucky not to score a fifth goal, because in the next half, Guardiola’s squad continued to dominate fully and they once hit the post and bounced out.
Only in the 89th minute did Chelsea manage to score their second goal. After a swift counterattack, Madueke dashed into the penalty area from the right and finished past Ortega to cut the lead to 2-4. This was also the match’s final score.
