In the season opener this afternoon, his Manchester City team had just finished a tough first forty-five minutes against Man United.
And as the whistle blew, Guardiola reacted angrily to his team’s performance even though there was nothing at stake in the game.

The reason behind the Man City manager’s ire as the players exited the ground appeared to be custodian Ederson’s kick of the ball right out of play just before halftime.

The City goalkeeping coach was then the target of Guardiola’s ire, and he did not hold back when berating the backroom employee in front of thousands of supporters at Wembley.

Despite the match having nothing riding on it, Guardiola reacted furiously to the team's performance

  • Even though there was no stake in the game, Guardiola was incensed by the way his players performed.

This afternoon’s match took place in the Community, marking the third Manchester derby played beneath the arches in the previous fifteen months.

The Red Devils most recently sweetened the bitter pill of Erik Ten Hag’s disappointing season by winning 2-1 in May’s FA Cup Final.

Halfway through the contest, England international Kobbie Mainoo extended the Old Trafford side’s lead with a man-of-the-match performance. Alejandro Garnacho had given the team the lead earlier.

In the 87th minute, Jeremy Doku of City gave the team’s hordes of supporters something to cheer about with a consolation goal.

The previous year, after the quickest goal in the history of the FA Cup final, City defeated United 2-1 at Wembley to claim the trophy.

In just 12 seconds, Ilkay Gundogan gave Guardiola’s team the lead, and the Premier League winners never looked back as they won their second trophy of a season that saw them win three trophies in all.

On this muggy and steamy August afternoon, there were not many opportunities created by either team during the first half at Wembley today.

It was inevitable that City would control the ball in the first minutes, and United’s midfield, which featured Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes, was unable to stop them.

The Norwegian attacker, Oscar Bobb, appeared to have the greatest chance of producing something for Guardiola’s team. He cut inside from the flank and fired the ball just over the bar.

The Red Devils ignored the warning, and a few seconds later James McAtee executed the same move but got much closer, his shot just missing the post.

A chance went begging, as United’s Amad Diallo was left with his head in his hands.

After that, United had a much better opportunity of their own as Amad Diallo broke through the City defence and Mason Mount’s botched one-two left the goal gaping.

Throughout the first half, Guardiola was agitated, giving his players orders and frequently seen with his head in his hands as his squad struggled to click.

And the Spaniard’s rage boiled over as an irate City team traipsed off the pitch at halftime, with the manager directing most of his ire towards his poor goalkeeping coach.
