Jack Grealish is doubtful for Manchester City’s opening match of their fourth consecutive Premier League championship defence due to an injury, according to Pep Guardiola.
Prior to Saturday’s Community Shield penalty shootout victory over Manchester United, Grealish suffered a knock during training and was rested as a precaution.
However, that might go till Sunday when City travels to Stamford Bridge to play Chelsea, led by Enzo Maresca, out of concern that they might exacerbate a small issue.
“He was uncomfortable for two days, but he wasn’t feeling well on Friday,” Guardiola stated. We didn’t want to take a chance, but I don’t think it’s a major problem. It’s a blow; he was forceful and had rhythm.
“I’m pretty sure he’ll be ready against Ipswich Town, or maybe against Chelsea.” He might have been gone for three weeks or even a month if he had been hurt now.
Pep Guardiola has admitted that Jack Grealish is a doubt for Man City’s clash with Chelsea
As a precaution, Grealish was not included in the Community Shield victory over Man United.
In Grealish’s place, Jeremy Doku and the recent £33 million addition Savinho will compete for the left wing spot. On his Wembley debut, Savinho looked impressive coming off the bench.
“Savinho will understand us perfectly,” Guardiola continued. I am familiar with a tonne of Girona’s actions from the previous campaign, like going to the byline and crossing to the near or far post, where the strikers scored a tonne of goals. He moves so quickly in transition.
