GOLDEN BOY: Bukayo Saka and Cole Palmer joined by Manchester United duo in PFA Young Player of the Year award race

Now we know who is up for the 2024 PFA Young Player of the Year award. There are players from Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United among them.

The award is currently held by Arsenal star Bukayo Saka. He beat Erling Haaland, Gabriel Martinelli, Jacob Ramsey, Moises Caicedo, and Evan Ferguson to win it in 2023, after Phil Foden of Manchester City won back-to-back games.

Saka is nominated for the award again in 2024 after another great season with Arsenal. He scored 20 goals and set up 14 others across all competitions to help them win the Premier League title and then played a key role in England’s run to the final of Euro 2024 in Germany.

There is tough competition for the award from Cole Palmer, who had a great first season at Chelsea after moving there for £42.5 million from Manchester City. Palmer has already won a lot of awards for his 27 goals and 15 assists at Stamford Bridge.

Manchester United has two players in the running for the PFA Young Player award. Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho and Saka and Palmer’s England teammate Kobbie Mainoo are both up for the award for their outstanding play in midfield.

Michael Olise is also on the list. He had a great season for Crystal Palace last year despite some medical problems and then moved to Bayern Munich for £50 million in July.

Joao Pedro, a Brazilian player who moved to Brighton for £30 million from Watford last summer and had a great first season, is also up for the award.

Monday morning also saw the announcement of the PFA Young Player of the Year list for women. Grace Clinton, a former Tottenham loanee who now plays for Manchester United, was named along with Khiara Keating and Jess Park for Manchester City, Maya Le Tissier for United, and Lauren James and Aggie Beever-Jones for Chelsea.

There will be a 51st PFA Awards ceremony on the evening of August 21 where the winners of both awards will be revealed.

The nominees for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award for both men’s and women’s football will be revealed at 9am BST on Tuesday. In 2023, Haaland and Rachel Daly won the awards.
