The negotiations between Crystal Palace and Arsenal to bring Eddie Nketiah to the team are practically complete.
It is expected that Palace will accept a bid of £25 million plus an additional £5 million from the north London club.
Concerning the individual, there ought to be no issues.
The Athletic reported on Sunday that Palace had discussed the 25-year-old with Arsenal earlier in the summer and were considering signing Nketiah.
Not long after Nottingham Forest gave up trying to sign Nketiah, that news was released. The attacker decided against moving, despite Forest and Arsenal having agreed on a deal of up to £30 million ($39.6 million).
Earlier in the transfer window, Marseille attempted to sign the England star, but they were unable to come to an agreement on a price.
Shortly before he was scheduled to become a free agent in June 2022, Nketiah signed a new contract with Arsenal. His current agreement is valid until 2027.
Nketiah has not yet participated in a game this season, however he has participated in pre-season play. He did not substitute himself into either of his team’s two Premier League games, a 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at home and a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa away.
Another forward for Arsenal, Gabriel Jesus, will have a scan to determine the severity of his “slight” groin injury that kept him out of the game.
Palace’s first two games have ended in losses. They were defeated 2-0 by West Ham United at Selhurst Park on Saturday. They had suffered an away defeat to Brentford 2-1 prior to then.
Jean-Philippe Mateta has started both of those games at the front for Oliver Glasner. The Frenchman is entering his second season of play after having a fantastic 2023–24 campaign in which he scored 19 goals in 39 appearances.
Odsonne Edouard was Palace’s other primary scorer until Jordan Ayew signed a permanent contract with Leicester City last week. Prior to Friday’s trade deadline, Glasner has expressed his desire to add more players.
Tuesday’s match for Palace is against Norwich City, who will be visiting for the Carabao Cup second round.
