Raheem Sterling’s shocking loan move to Arsenal has been finalised, ending his banishment from Chelsea.

On a dramatic transfer deadline day, that also saw Jadon Sancho close in on a move to Stamford Bridge, the Gunners swooped to sign Sterling from their London rivals as they closed in on finally ending their attempts to sign a new attacker.

The agreement, which was completed in the wee hours of Saturday morning, contains no buy option obligation.

Before the transfer was finalised, the England international had a medical at Arsenal late on Friday night.

Under Enzo Maresca, Sterling has been informed that he has no future at Chelsea, and the team has been trying to find him a new home.

And on Friday afternoon, Arsenal made a dramatic move to officially declare their interest in Sterling before completing the necessary paperwork.

Sterling’s £325,000 weekly salary was seen to be the main obstacle preventing his exit during the window. However, a deal has been reached by the two teams over how his income would be divided throughout the loan period.

The 29-year-old will reunite with Mikel Arteta, the manager of the Gunners, with whom he had a strong working relationship at Manchester City.

Sterling is not in Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca’s plans for this season.

Sancho, who is closing in on a loan from Manchester United, where he was out of favour with head coach Erik ten Hag after their well-publicized falling out, will take Sterling’s place at Stamford Bridge in the meantime.

The former star of Borussia Dortmund is expected to sign a loan deal with the London team with a buyout obligation. According to sources, the permanent acquisition price is approximately £23 million.
