Luka Modrić, a star player for Real Madrid, had a historic night on the world stage on Sunday.
For his part, Modrić was back in action not long ago for Croatia.
The experienced midfielder started right away in the next match, this time against Poland after playing in the previous week’s Nations League match against Portugal.
After everything was said and done, Modrić proved to be the most important player in the game.
The former Tottenham Hotspur star, who will be 39 years old on Monday, scored the only goal of the game from a free kick early in the second half.
But even before that, Modrić made history by just walking onto the field.
After 180 games, the Real Madrid leader has now played for his country 180 times.
In Europe, this puts him tied for second place with Sergio Ramos of Spain for the most caps ever, who used to play with Blancos and is a close friend.
Now, Cristiano Ronaldo is the only player on the list who has played more games for Portugal than Modrić. He has done so an amazing 213 times.
