Martin Odegaard injury lastes: Arsenal captain on crutches, apology and Tottenham derby hopes

This Sunday is the North London derby, and Martin Odegaard has given Arsenal a lot to think about.

The Norwegian needed help getting off the pitch after getting hurt in Monday night’s win over Austria. According to the team doctor, the star hurt his ankle. He was later seen getting on a plane while using crutches.

After his duties in Norway were over, he was boarding a private jet and needed assistance climbing the stairs. The pilot helped him. Odegaard was adamant about not putting any weight on his foot while he awaited an injury diagnosis.

Arsenal’s captain may potentially miss out on time against him when they play Tottenham in five days. Even though it appears to be beyond him right now, Odegaard is eager to try and play on Sunday and will get an MRI.

The Norwegian has mainly been a constant under Mikel Arteta, missing just four games in the previous two Premier League seasons. The Arsenal manager will surely try to play the playmaker if he receives even the slightest bit of approval because he has hated to even give him a break.

Even though they have just played three games this season, Arsenal already trailed Manchester City and cannot afford to lose any more ground. Riccardo Calafiori had already sustained an injury, so Arteta had to watch tensely during the international break, hoping his men would return.

Following Odegaard’s injury, Stale Solbakken, the manager of Norway, stated that he was certain the manager of the Gunners would not be impressed. “The dressing room also looked bad,” he remarked. “He lacked the courage to carry on. I’m not sure if Arteta will give me a call tonight and give me her praises.”

While it is not ideal for Odegaard or Arteta to miss the Tottenham match—especially as Declan Rice will also be out due to suspension—Arsenal is about to embark on a difficult but potentially pivotal run of games.

Arsenal will play Atalanta in the Champions League after Sunday’s match. They will then play the champs at the Etihad a few days later. After the choices to let go of Emile Smith Rowe and Fabio Vieira in the summer, Kai Havertz is the front-runner to replace Odegaard.
