A number of promising midfield recruits are being watched by Manchester United ahead of the January transfer window.
Chris Rigg of Sunderland, who United believe has the makings of a generational midfield talent, is one possible target, according to HITC.
Talented Norwegian Sverre Nypan, 17, is another player United has their eye on. He turns 18 in December and can make a move in January.
TV2Sport said that earlier this month, United dispatched scouts to observe Nypan; they will be closely monitoring his progress with a regular presence.
The 17-year-old played well against United in the preseason back in July and is already a first team regular for Rosenborg.
Sverre Nypan is the star of the newest show.
In Rosenborg’s most recent Eliteserien game, Sverre Nypan showed off to lead Rosenborg to a 4-0 victory over Haugesund.
After ten touches inside the opposition box, Nypan had a dynamic performance and scored Rosenborg’s third goal on one of his six shots.
In the 75 minutes he played, the adolescent made one attempt and won 100% of his tackles (3/3).
As Nypan started the movement that resulted in Rosenborg’s second goal of the match, TV2 pundit Haakon Frydenberg Thon praised the “beautiful football” that was being played.
In this season, Nypan has been a regular starter for Rosenborg, tallying six goals and dishing out six assists.
Manchester United would be purchasing a player who is emerging as a top performer and who is gaining genuine senior football experience at a young age.
Nypan became the first 17-year-old Norwegian to score three goals in Rosenborg’s top tier since Erling Haaland, who was also 99 days younger, when he did it last month.
Nypan is a fan of Manchester United.
Arsenal has reportedly expressed interest in signing Sverre Nypan, so Manchester United isn’t the only team considering a deal for him, according to Fussball News.
With their newfound form and the Norwegian talent Martin Odegaard, Arsenal has a chance, but United has the strongest advantage.
United has reportedly been following Nypan for a year, according to The Sun in 2023. Nypan’s fan base supports this long-term interest.
The offensive midfielder has acknowledged his love for Manchester United, how much he looks up to Cristiano Ronaldo, and how former player Ander Herrera inspires him.
As soon as the club is able to, a trade may be completed in January if United wants him that much.
