Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta is set to offer Leandro Trossard a new contract, after a transfer attempt was blocked by Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad in the summer transfer window

Leandro Trossard is expected to receive a new contract from Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta in the wake of a failed transfer attempt by Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad during the summer transfer transfer window. Following Arteta’s purported intervention to avert Trossard’s departure, the club has reiterated its dedication to the Belgian forward.

Arsenal declined Al-Ittihad’s loan offer of £4 million earlier this month, which included an obligation to convert the agreement into a permanent agreement for £25 million. The Gunners had no intention of permitting the 29-year-old to depart, despite the alluring financial offer. The Saudi club’s interest in Trossard was expressed late in the transfer window; however, Arteta reiterated that Trossard is a critical component of his squad.

The transfer was personally thwarted by Arteta, who is a “real fan” of Trossard, according to the Flemish publication Nieuwsblad. Trossard, despite being offered a salary that was three times his present income, was reportedly not interested in the move and chose to remain at the Emirates Stadium.

Trossard is anticipated to receive new terms from Arsenal in the near future, despite the fact that negotiations for a contract renewal have not yet commenced. His current contract is set to expire in 2026.

Arsenal

Trossard has encountered difficulty in establishing a consistent starting position under Arteta since his transfer from Brighton to Arsenal in January 2023 for a fee of £27 million. He has only started 39 games for the Gunners in 74 appearances, frequently falling behind Gabriel Martinelli in the selection order for the left wing position.

Trossard’s goal and assist ratios are more remarkable than Martinelli’s, despite his limited number of starts. He has been involved in a goal or assist every 111 minutes, as opposed to Martinelli’s 169 minutes per contribution. Trossard was “upset” about not starting in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa last month, according to Arteta. However, he was praised for his professionalism and influence off the bench, including scoring a crucial goal in the aforementioned game.

Arteta emphasised the Belgian’s capacity to impact games from the bench, stating, “Trossard came on and made the difference, so big credit to him.”
