Tonight, Bolton Wanderers of League One will come to the Emirates Stadium to play Arsenal in the third round of the EFL Cup.
The Gunners are coming into this game after a poor 2-2 draw with Manchester City, who are in the running for the title. Mikel Arteta’s team fell behind early in the game because Erling Haaland scored a beautiful goal, but they came back so well and turned the game around by scoring twice before halftime.
But when Leandro Trossard was given a red card in an unusual way, the game flipped upside down. Arsenal had 10 men for the whole second half and came close to winning all three points, but they gave up a late equaliser and missed the chance to stay on top of the table.
Arteta’s team will try to get back to winning ways by beating Bolton tonight. Next weekend, they will play Leicester City in the Premier League.
Team news
Unfortunately, Martin Odegaard can’t play in this game because of an ankle injury, and Takehiro Tomiyasu will also be out because of an injury.
Also, a new signing Mikel Merino broke his shoulder in training, so he probably won’t be back for a while. He will have to wait a little longer to make his start for the club.
Oleksandr Zinchenko is another well-known player who is hurt and probably won’t be able to play in this match. Since Trossard got a red card last time, he is not allowed to play in this game. Also, David Raya is questionable.
A guess at the lineup
Arteta is likely to make a lot of changes to his starting eleven for this game so that he can give his key players a break during this busy stretch of games. Neto could then make his start for Arsenal.
William Saliba could stay in the middle of Arsenal’s defence, and he could play with Riccardo Calafiori, who scored a great goal in the last game. Gabriel Magalhaes would get a break in the middle of the week.
Ben White might start at right back after coming off the bench the last time, while Jakub Kiwior should start on the other side. So, Jurrien Timber might get a break after playing three games in a row in seven days.
Jorginho is likely to be in the holding midfield position and alongside the veteran, Ethan Nwaneri and Declan Rice could complete the midfield trio for the North London club.
Kai Havertz and Gabriel Martinelli are expected to be given a breather in midweek, therefore, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling would be the front three for the hosts tonight.
Predicted Arsenal team to play Bolton
Neto; White, Saliba, Calafiori, Kiwior; Jorginho, Rice, Nwaneri; Saka, Jesus, Sterling
