Although he had a poor start to the season, the current Premier League Player of the Year excelled in Slovakia.
Tuesday’s 4-0 Champions League victory over Slovan Bratislava showed how brilliantly Manchester City was playing. The game’s standout players were Phil Foden, Rico Lewis, and Jeremy Doku, with the English attacking midfielder recording two goals and an assist.
Lewis impressed by providing lots of assistance and energy for City, while goals from James McAtee, Erling Haaland, and Belgian winger Doku caused chaos down on the right side were also among the scores.
After being briefly threatened by a counterattack by Bratislava, City quickly established their superiority and took the lead eight minutes in when Gundogan scored after a shot was blocked and was greatly assisted by a deflection. Less than ten minutes later, Doku, whose cross assisted in creating the first goal, was back at it when he got on the ball down the right side and found Foden to put it in the bottom corner.
City were flying and continued to test goalkeeper Dominik Takac, but the Slovakian side managed to keep the Premier League champions out until their defence handed a chance to Haaland just before the hour mark. The Norwegian striker had a quiet night generally, but he scored after Lewis’ ball freed up space in the Bratislava defence, and he finished well.
The English champions’ fourth goal came from a Foden chip to substitute McAtee, who rolled it in for his first senior goal.
Pep Guardiola’s men continued to carve up their opponents.

Attack
Jeremy Doku (8/10):
He was having a blast! With so much down the flank to take advantage of his pace, he was a continuous threat. Key scored the first two goals, hitting the woodwork himself and setting up other scoring opportunities.
Savinho (6/10):
Gave the hosts a lot of trouble down City’s left but created nothing substantial.
Erling Haaland (6/10):
Went through long spells without being involved, but pounced on some woeful defending to get his goal.

Looked lively after replacing Haaland for the last 30 minutes and managed to get a goal.
Ruben Dias (5/10):
Didn’t have much to do with City cruising by the time he came on.
Jack Grealish (5/10):
Was unable to get much time on the ball in his 10 minutes or so on the field.
Kyle Walker (6/10):
Got involved down the right side and had a long-range shot saved.
Pep Guardiola (7/10):
Even if he may have thought his team should have scored more given their domination and 25 shots (13 on goal) during the course of the 90 minutes, he can’t really complain about anything else as City easily won.
