POWERLESS AND BREAKING: Real Madrid stunned as Lille end their 36-MATCH unbeaten run with 1-0 win in Champions League

Real Madrid’s 36-game winning streak came to an end as Lille took the Champions League leaders by surprise.

Additionally, Los Blancos were prevented by Jonathan David’s penalty from matching a club record of 15 straight games played without a loss in the highest club league in Europe.

All season long, Carlo Ancelotti’s La Liga champions have faltered.

However, they had not experienced a defeat until Atletico Madrid eliminated them 4-2 in overtime during the Copa del Rey in January.

Furthermore, Real’s last Champions League setback occurred in May 2023 when they lost 4-0 to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in the semi-final second leg.

However, Lille was just as dominant during the first hour as Los Blancos were quiet for extended periods of time.

Canadian striker David was only stopped by Real Madrid keeper Andriy Lunin’s incredible double save.

Finally, during stoppage time in the first half, VAR determined that Eduardo Camavinga had used his arm to block Edon Zhegrova’s free kick.

And David, who has been connected to Premier League teams for a while, scored the subsequent penalty kick.

Jude Bellingham, an England midfielder for Real, was booked as his team was having trouble.

However, Kylian Mbappe, who had been out with a thigh injury, came off the bench to assist Ancelotti’s team in applying further pressure in the closing stages.

Antonio Rudiger, a former Chelsea defender, had his header saved off the line.

Then, Arda Guler gave Lille custodian Lucas Chevalier a clear nod, creating a huge opportunity.

The French hosts will still believe that this was one of their best wins ever, though, as they rightly held on.

To make matters worse for Mbappe, TNT Sports saw his younger brother Ethan, 17, LEADING the team’s dressing-room celebrations. Ethan just missed out on playing for Lille because of a muscular issue.

And Real is currently undergoing the most thorough analysis of their dismal form.

In La Liga, Barcelona leads Los Blancos by three points.

And on Saturday, Real Madrid hosts third-place Villarreal at home.

But Ancelotti may face the most criticism in the Champions League.

In their debut match last month, Real defeated Stuttgart 3-1.

However, following their defeat on Wednesday, they will play Liverpool, AC Milan, and Borussia Dortmund.

Ancelotti’s team will still aim to place among the top 24 and move on to the newly designed group stage.

If they want to be in the top eight and get a quick pass to the round of 16, they will need to win a few close matches.

They will play in an additional two-leg knockout tie if they place in the 36-team league between ninth and twenty-fourth.
