BRUNO FERNANDES was sent off for a second straight Manchester United game, which caused a lot of debate.
The leader of the Red Devils got a second yellow card for a high boot against Porto.
United quickly took a two-goal lead in the second city of Portugal. Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund both scored after Diogo Costa made a mistake.
But Porto quickly got back on track with a goal from Pepe and a draw from Samu Omorodion, who is being scouted by Chelsea for the summer. Both goals came before halftime.
After that, Omorodion scored again to put the home team ahead before Fernandes’ crazy moment.
The captain of United used to play for Sporting, a fierce foe of Porto. He jumped in late to challenge Nehuen Perez for a high ball.
The Argentine then fell to the ground and grabbed his face. The judge showed him a second yellow card.
But replays showed that Fernandes’ boot did not touch the Argentine’s head; instead, his leg only touched Perez’s arm.
Lucky for Erik ten Hag, Fernandes’s predecessor as captain of Manchester United was there to save him from complete shame.
In the last few seconds, when it looked like there was no more chance, replacement Harry Maguire popped up and headed in a corner to tie the game.
The game against Porto was Fernandes’ second red card in five days, and both times it was for a bad reason.
He was sent off on Sunday for lunging at James Maddison with his studs up during a 3-0 loss to Tottenham.
But his red card was taken away when video showed that he had slipped into the hit.
He will be able to play in Sunday’s game at Aston Villa because the FA said so.
However, he will not get a second chance after getting a red card tonight. According to UEFA rules, a second booking can only be overturned in situations of mistaken identity.
So, he won’t be able to play in United’s next Europa League game, which is away at Fenerbahce, which is managed by Jose Mourinho’s old team.
