Arsenal ‘want’ to sign Lille’s speedy and super-strong star striker Jonathan David

According to Football Insider, Arsenal is “keen” to sign Jonathan David, a star for LOSC Lille.

Given the number of names they were linked to this summer, it appears the Gunners were hoping to add a new center-forward. Nevertheless, they ultimately decided against signing a striker before the deadline and instead sold Eddie Nketiah to Crystal Palace at the end of the transfer window.

With the departure of the Hale End graduate, the North London club’s center-forward alternatives are Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus. Arsenal is reportedly eager to bring David to the Emirates Stadium and is prepared to sign a new striker, according to Football Insider.

As the Canadian’s current deal is coming to an end, it is likely that he will sign a free agency contract with Les Dogues at the end of this season. If he does not renew his contract in the upcoming months, Arsenal will be able to reach an agreement on a pre-contract agreement with him in January.

Nevertheless, the report claims that Arsenal’s pursuit of the striker would not be easy, as AC Milan, Juventus, and Inter Milan have also shown interest in acquiring him, taking advantage of his current circumstances.

Moreover, Manchester United and Newcastle United are also plotting a swoop for him. Tottenham Hotspur previously looked at the Lille star but having recently signed Dominic Solanke, they are unlikely to make a move for a new number nine at the moment.

The 24-year-old has been in fine form in recent times as he has scored five goals in the last three appearances in all competitions. He even scored the winner against Real Madrid in the last Champions League fixture.

David – valued at around £42m by Transfermarkt, is a highly talented player and has showcased his goal-scoring prowess in the French top-flight over the last few years. So, he could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal to add depth in the striker department if they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign him if he leaves Les Dogues next year.

Meanwhile, following a comfortable 2-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League in midweek, Arsenal continue their unbeaten run this season.
