According to Sunday Mirror (page 66), Arsenal is interested in signing Brazilian sensation Vitor Reis from Palmeiras.
With their transfer window expenditures, the Gunners recently exercised caution. Just Raheem Sterling (on loan), Mikel Merino, and Riccardo Calafiori were added to the outfield.
Having failed to pry its main targets away, the club decided not to pursue other high-profile acquisitions. Nico Williams and Benjamin Sesko both favored remaining at their respective European teams.
Arsenal is reportedly one of the teams interested in Palmeiras wonderkid Vitor Reis, and negotiations over a possible transfer have already taken place with the teenager’s management.
The center defender is a “world-class talent,” according to Sunday Mirror, who also calls him a “strong ball winner” and “great long-range passer.” The 18-year-old’s contract contains an £85 million release clause.
Arsenal is not likely to pursue a Reis trade.
With the up-and-coming talent in their ranks, Palmeiras has emerged as the key attraction for elite European clubs.
Endrick recently moved to Real Madrid, while Estevao Willian will shortly be joining Chelsea.
In addition, Luis Guilherme, a winger with enormous future potential, has joined West Ham United.
At Palmeiras, Reis is seen as the future big thing. Throughout the current campaign, the youthful center-back has made 11 appearances in the Brazilian top division.
His 92% passing accuracy and 70% winning percentage in aerial duels per game have impressed. He has also shown excellence in his ability to clear his lines, tackle, and recover from injuries.
Although Reis has a bright future ahead of him, we wouldn’t be shocked if Arsenal made a move to sign him.
In center defense, William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes are the Gunners’ clear starters, and they have a wealth of excellent backup alternatives.
If one of them needs to be rested, Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Jurrien Timber, Jakub Kiwior, and Riccardo Calafiori can fill in at the center of the backline.
With their talents, Palmeiras could easily hold out for £50m or more. We don’t think a deal will get done until Kiwior and Tomiyasu both depart the team by the summer of next year.
For a while now, there has been talk that the two could return to Serie A.
