In Denmark’s lopsided Nations League loss to Spain tonight, Christian Eriksen looked impressive in the first half but was unable to make an impression in the second.
Denmark failed to score a single goal after the half, and Eriksen and the rest of their front line soon vanished from sight. Gustav Isaksen took his place on the 72nd minute.
Six minutes later, Rasmus Hojlund joined the fight, but in the face of constant Spanish onslaught, he had little opportunity of making an impact.
The number nine for Manchester United only had three touches of the ball and gave it up on one of them, but he shouldn’t be held to a strict standard because he was given an unachievable task.
Eriksen performed exceptionally well in the early going because he was used farther forward than in his typical United role, when he typically played deeper to assist Kobbie Mainoo.
From his right-sided position, he maintained the momentum, finding his man with 89% of his passes and pinging five crosses into the box.
Out of all the Danish players, he had the highest sofascore rating of 7.0.
In the meantime, Portugal’s captain Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United sparkled as they easily defeated Poland 3-1 in the Nations League.
Portugal’s first goal was scored by Bruno Fernandes, who also assisted by heading the ball into Bernardo Silva’s path.
Fernandes was a member of the Portuguese midfield trio that also included Ruben Neves of Al Hilal and Silva of Manchester City.
In his time on the field, Fernandes recorded 62 touches of the ball and completed 38 of his 44 passes, which translated into an 86% accuracy rate on individual passes. He completed four crucial passes.
With two crosses and as many long balls as possible, the playmaker attempted to make contact. Despite his best efforts, he was unable to reach his goal, therefore this is a measure he will definitely want to improve on.
One great chance was produced by the United captain. He was unlucky not to be on the score sheet because he posed a threat inside the box. Fernandes finished with four shots. Two hit their mark, while two others didn’t need Lukasz Skorupski to intervene.
Fernandes prevailed in the one aerial challenge he participated in and won five of the seven ground duels he faced. He completed four tackles, one interception, and one clearance.
The 29-year-old has had a challenging start to the United season, so it’s encouraging to see him having an influence once more. He recently accepted responsibility for his struggles at the club level and pledged to make every effort to get back on track. His performance in the match against Poland was undoubtedly a positive beginning.
Diogo Dalot was another talent from United who was selected for Portugal. The full-back completed one tackle, two interceptions, and four clearances.
