In the summer of 2018, Meret moved to Napoli after rising through the ranks at Udinese Calcio and making a name for himself with their first squad. Although it was a temporary loan transfer, a year later it was made permanent.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper is still a vital member of their starting lineup and appears to have improved since Antonio Conte joined the team. He has four clean sheets in his six games this season.

The Italian shot-stopper is having a wonderful season, but unlike last summer, there is no option to extend his contract for a another year. His deal expires in the summer of 2025. Arsenal wants to take advantage of the fact that Meret might become a free agent in ten months or less.

Roma in pole position to land Napoli keeper Alex Meret in the summer

Meret wants to join Arsenal for nothing.Aaron Ramsdale was let go by the Gunners in the summer. In order to cover for their first choice, David Raya, they did sign Neto on loan, but they are still searching for a long-term backup. Someone who can contend with the former Brentford goalie for a spot in the starting lineup is what Arsenal is looking for.

Joan Garcia of Espanyol is a key target for the Gunners, but the Spanish team won’t allow him to leave for anything less than €30 million, thus Meret, who will be available for free next summer, is another option.

He possesses every attribute that Arteta is seeking, and he will undoubtedly compete with Raya for the starting position. It will be intriguing to observe, though, if he is prepared to assume the backup position. More significantly, Napoli will not give up on a new contract because they believe he is essential to their success under Antonio Conte.
