The summer transfer window for Arsenal in 2016–17
As Wenger’s time in the capital came to an end, the fans were quite unhappy with him because they wanted the team to go back to the heights that the Frenchman had led them to.He made significant additions to his roster in order to try to contend for the Premier League title in the 2016–17 campaign, including Granit Xhaka, Shkodran Mustafi, and Lucas Perez.
The trio came in slightly under £100 million for the club, but it’s reasonable to say that two of the acquisitions didn’t work out at the Emirates, costing the team a significant sum of money for very little return.
Mustafi and Perez both struggled to make an immediate impact and despite the club forking out over £50m on the aforementioned duo, they ultimately departed the club for a combined total of just £5m – a signal of the club’s poor business in the market.
