Myles Lewis-Skelly, an Arsenal wonderkid, was left perplexed after being momentarily barred from taking the field during Tuesday’s Champions League match against Shakhtar Donetsk.

In the 72nd minute, Riccardo Calafiori was replaced by the 18-year-old.

But the fourth official briefly barred him from accessing the field because of an earring.

Even though it was wrapped up, the referee would not allow him to continue until he removed the earring.

The problem was promptly fixed by Lewis-Skelly, who then continued on for his second Champions League appearance.

The incident was funny, according to fans on social media, with one user writing: “Myles Lewis-Skelly trying to come on for Arsenal with a brand-new earring taped over.” Not having it, fourth official 😂.

Another person said: “They made Lewis-Skelly take out his fresh piercing 😂 He better hope that don’t heal up and close on him.”

A third person joked: “Lewis-Skelly’s mum is gonna be fuming 😭 his entry into a champions league game delayed because he has to take his earring off 🤣.”

After that, Arsenal won the game 1-0 because of an own goal.

The goal by Gabriel Martinelli in the 29th minute was deflected in off Dmytro Riznyk, the goalkeeper for Shakhtar.

There were numerous opportunities for the Gunners to increase their lead, but they were not taken advantage of.

Leandro Trossard had 15 minutes remaining when he had a great chance to make it 2-0 from the penalty spot but missed it.

Riznyk had an easy time saving the Belgian’s shot because it went straight down the middle.

With three games played, Arsenal currently has seven points in the Champions League.
