A fight broke out after Sunderland beat Luton Town, and Jude Bellingham’s brother was at the center of it.
At the end of the game, Jobe Bellingham and Thomas Kaminski, the Hatters’ goalie, got into a fight.
As things got worse at Kenilworth Road, many more players joined in.
The night ended in the book for Bellingham, his Sunderland teammate Luke O’Nien, and Carlton Morris and Tom Holmes of Luton.
However, Sunderland had a great night after the Hatters gave them a tough first half and should have been ahead at halftime.
The Town’s missed chance paid off ten minutes into the second half when 17-year-old Chris Rigg put the guests ahead.
Elijah Adebayo scored Luton’s first goal of the season eight minutes later, making things tougher again. But Mundle scored the game-winning goal in the 66th minute, giving Black Cats the win.
Sunderland was looking for their second away win in four days after beating Hull on Sunday. Dan Neil scored the first goal for them with just one minute gone.
Later, Belgian goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski stopped Alan Browne’s back-heel from close range that was going to go in.
Luton is feeling good after beating Watford 3-0 in a derby on Saturday. They got through that tense period, and Morris’s shot came close.
It was action-packed and hard to breathe, and Sunderland came under a lot of pressure in the middle of the half.
First, home center-back Mark McGuiness tried to score with a header, but Mackems goalkeeper Anthony Patterson stepped in to stop it.
That came from the left-wing corner of Alfie Doughty. Doughty’s next corner set up McGuinness for another shot right away, but this time the ball hit the bar.
Town defender Jordan Clark was clearly not onside when Morris scored from yet another Doughty corner kick deep into added time in the first half. Luton thought they had found a way through.
After Clark’s cross from the right found Adebayo, he headed the ball out from close range two minutes into the second half. Patterson saved the goal and kept the score even.
But Sunderland took the lead at the 55-minute mark.
Luton let go of the ball in middle for once when Tahith Chong lost it and Browne’s header set Rigg on a run.
The youth turned and fired a low shot with his left foot as he moved to the left side of the area.
But Luton tied it up eight minutes later. Again, Doughty was to blame when he scored from a free kick on the right side.
Morris got it just past the far post, volleyed it across goal, and Adebayo scored with a header.
After six minutes, Sunderland took the lead again. Even though Chong said he had been fouled, referee Tom Nield didn’t agree. Neil then set up Mundle for a run across the box that ended with a low goal.
