Due to serious foul play against Cole Palmer, LISANDRO MARTINEZ was incredibly fortunate not to get sent out.
The Chelsea playmaker was caught high on his left knee by the Manchester United defender’s studs.
When Lisandro Martinez challenged Cole Palmer knee-high, he avoided being sent off.
After reviewing it, VAR chose to uphold the yellow card decision made on the field.
Martinez knew what he was doing when he stopped the onslaught at all costs, putting Palmer’s safety at jeopardy.
At the conclusion of the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, the challenge took place in stoppage time.
In his post-match interview, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca maintained that it was a clear red card infraction.
“I believe there is no intention to take the ball, and the foul is pretty dangerous,” he stated.
“They show me before the press conference, and I think it is quite clear for all of us,” he continued during his press conference.
“The referee made a different choice, but he is there to make a decision.
“It is red in my opinion when there is no desire to go for the ball and only the player is present.”
Gary Neville, a legend of Manchester United, concurred that Martinez was lucky to escape termination.
“I think you’re asking for a red card when you go that high,” the former England right-back stated during commentary. I consider him fortunate.
“I think it’s a red when you go knee-high and the ball is gone.”
After examining the challenge for a considerable amount of time, VAR concluded that it was not worthy of a red card. Martinez returned to his natural position at center defense and put in a comparatively strong performance.
Martinez was given a yellow card by the referee for a challenge on Palmer, according to a statement provided by the Premier League explaining why Martinez did not receive a red card. VAR determined that it was a reckless challenge rather than serious foul play after looking for a possible red card and validating the referee’s decision to not issue one.
